I remember that day well. I worked the ramp at KDFW and heard of the incident when the CRJ was on takeoff and used the incorrect runway. Tragic.

I remember we were in the cafeteria eating lunch during student orientation when we found out.  This was the same week they told us that we'd know someone who died in an aviation accident within ten years.  I lasted a year after graduation before that sad milestone.

Its hard to believe the news got out that far to everyone in DFW or any other state ( I know that sound weird , like why wouldn't it) but being such a small airport with 15 or so jetways you never think anything like that could happen at the airport you work at , Not LEX . Runway 26 had NO runway lights ?? How could you make such a bad decision and at the least no cross check everything before taking off on a 3500 ft runway . So sad . FYI Runway 8/26 is now gone and they have built 9/27 vertically to runway 4/22 the primary runway.

Long time ago, I flew many times for stop over in LEX on Delta 727-200 or DC-9-32 between ORD and CHA.  I haven't been since 1984 I think.  I flew once my flight Delta 727-200 with two stops ORD-LEX-CHA-ATL.
