Westen Global operation?
« on: January 10, 2018, 02:43:49 PM »
Not FS related.  I am still in the US on my Christmas holiday and for a few more hours I'm in Fort Myers, Florida.  At RSW where the old terminal used to be, is a fleet of MD-11s for n outfit called Westen Global.  Wiki says the planes are leased/chartered out, who would their clients be?  UPS or FedEx for surges in air freight?  Last week when I flew to ORD, one of the planes had been towed across the field to a gate, usually the one used by Airberlin when they were around.  Looked like one of my bad ADE files with a cargo plane at a gate.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

They fly a little bit of everything.. FDX, UPS, NATO, adhoc charters.. Basically you call, we haul. They were doing a lot of Christmas lift help as I watched a few of the MD-11's in the US.. Here are last years' plans which are very much the type of flying they do..

Would love to see an update again, but it really has only been less than a year since these were released.

Thanks, it was weird seeing all of those MD-11s at RSW.  Now I'm at DFW, which does have some interesting aircraft here.  I saw a Boeing of some sort, maybe 767 that was all white with some green lettering near the front door.

May have been the ATI 762, which just arrived from CVG about an hour ago.

Be sure to ride the skylink for incredible views of the airside ops

Could be, it arrived waaaay across the field after we did.  I spotted it as we were waiting to cross the active and for 4 planes to depart.  I rode the train from C to B and was looking out the entire time.  Now I'm looking at a cup of burnt ends chili and a tasty IPA while waiting for my next flight.  I'll be in DFW again on Friday when I'm catching QF8 back to Sydney.  I'll be looking for aircraft...and more chili and this IPA.

Hmmm.   Maybe I'll go their flightplans for the week before Christmas -- like I did all the other cargo dogs for AIG for this Winter.

Thanks Steve.  Upon my return to Sydney and after getting back into the work mode after being away for a month, I've been thinking of trying to do Jetgo, if they are not yet planned.  In October they started service to a new city and have new equipment too, an E140 that AA retired.

Western Global Winter fflightplans are now in the Queue (AIG) for Beta Testing.    Full fleet in operations the week before Christmas - with most in support of UPS out of Louisville.

More cargo carriers coming.    :stirpot:

Steve

EDIT:    Seems that both of National Airlines 744s were in support of UPS too,  ::evilgrin::

Does this also covers their Liege/LGG (Belgium/EBLG) operations?

I am almost weekly in LGG, and there are always a minimum of 2 on the ground.

Thanks!
