Southwest 717?
« on: June 01, 2019, 09:42:52 PM »
Hi everyone.

Just watching some old Justplanes videos on YouTube and saw some of the Airtran 717 fleet in action.

Did Southwest ever operate them after the buy out, or were they all sold off immediately?

From Wiki (I know, not the best source) "these planes were subleased to Delta Air Lines in mid-2013 and remain in service there"

Who actually owns them then?

Just curious.

Most of them are registered to various leasing companies per the FAA database. Southwest never operated them, and since they don’t really fit their fleet requirements, I really don’t know if they still own them. It’s quite possible they’ve passed them off to these leasing companies since they acquired AirTran.

Delta bought some 717 from AirTran.  Right after Southwest took over AirTran. All of those 717 is stopped flying.   Southwest took some of those 737-700 to repaint new Southwest colors.
