the 747SP is an ugly plane, no matter how anyone tries to portray it

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;) Personally I really like the SP, great "personality" and history :)

Jep, I like it the most out of the 747 family, especially as I was lucky enough to fly in one from Johannisburg to Cape Town (not really the intended distances when Boeing came up with the SP).

Best regards,

I don't think it is ugly at all, the FSP model however is very ugly.

it's like the A300-600ST, ugly.

the big hump on it then instead of making the back of the plane the same size as the rest of the SP, they make it smaller. what is up with that? I want to go back in time and shred the paper the isea was on and convince the person who thought it up to try the same thing, but make the back the same size.lol

That's a feature on all 747's, it's just noticeable on the 747SP because that is the fuselage station they chose to omit from/to.

You can still see part of the 747SP today on the 747 Dreamlifter.  :yeah:

Lucky enough for me I flew an SP transatlantic in the early 90s, and although I was young it's an experience I'll never forget, it was a rare plane back then!

meh, I don't know. I think they still are today, I think SAA is the only major airline that still flies them

SAA doesn't still fly them. The only ones in regular airline service today is one with Syrian Air and 3 with Iran Air, if I'm not mistaken..

They are still in use by many governments in the Middle East. Las Vegas Sands also operatos two of them.
