Canada World Update – Handcrafted Airport AI Check

Today we will have a look at the handcrafted Airports of World Update 11 in MSFS. The airports have been checked against the basic design guidelines required to handle AI Traffic at these airports.

CYBD – Bella Coola Airport

Taxiway-/Path Network

The airport has a basic taxiway-network allowing airplanes to taxi around. There is no dedicated vehicle network for airport vehicles, at such small airports this is no issue.

There is one parallel taxiway to the runway, placed on the runway location, which can cause some issues with AI airplanes.

Around the airport some public roads are added as airport-taxiway – no clue why this was added.

Parking

The airport is served by B1900 airplanes, for those there are parking spots with a radius of 10m. 4 out of 5 spots do overlap which will block 2 of them automatically.

Conclusion

Small regional airport with not much AI traffic, the downsides of the airport design will therefore have not such a big impact.

CYCG – Castlegar Airport

Taxiway-/Path Network

The airport has a basic taxiway-network allowing airplanes to taxi around. There is no dedicated vehicle network for airport vehicles, at such small airports this is no issue.

Parking

There is sufficient parking space for the airlines operating at this airport, some of them do overlap.

Conclusion

Small regional airport with not much AI traffic, the downsides of the airport design will therefore have not such a big impact.

CYDA – Dawson City Airport

Taxiway-/Path Network

The airport has a basic taxiway-network allowing airplanes to taxi around. There is no dedicated vehicle network for airport vehicles, at such small airports this is no issue.

One apron is not connected to the network at all.

Around the airport some public roads are added as airport-taxiway – no clue why this was added.

Parking

For the charter-service of Air North (B737) is no parking space at the airport. The space for it would be there, but the designer did not make the spots large enough.

One apron has no spots added all.

The GA apron for the small airplanes has some parking spots, those are not all placed on the added ground markings and with a bit of detailed work far more spots could have been added – the ground markings are there.

Conclusion

Small regional airport with not much AI traffic, with some downsides with direct impact on the AI immersion at the airport.

CYDF – Deer Lake Airport

Taxiway-/Path Network

The airport has a basic taxiway-network allowing airplanes to taxi around. There is no dedicated vehicle network for airport vehicles, which will cause conflicts with ground vehicles at such airports.

There is one parallel taxiway to the runway, placed on the runway location, which can cause some issues with AI airplanes.

Around the airport some public roads are added as airport-taxiway – no clue why this was added.

Parking

The added parking spots are all overlapping, reducing the maximum number of usable spaces at a time to 50%.

For airplanes like B737 or A321 there are no parking spots at the airport at the moment. They will not spawn here or vanish after landing.

Conclusion

A medium size airport that will not show the full potential of AI traffic because of the above issues.

CYFB – Iqaluit International Airport

Taxiway-/Path Network

The airport has a basic taxiway-network allowing airplanes to taxi around. There is a dedicated vehicle network for airport vehicles.

Around the airport some public roads are added as airport-taxiway – no clue why this was added.

Parking

Most of the parking spots overlap reducing the number of usable spots at the same time.

There are no dedicated cargo-spots at the airport, they are currently set to “GA_LARGE”, cargo airplanes can use them via the fallback, but dedicated spots would be better.

Some stands at the terminal should be a bit larger to make sure all airplanes operating at the airport can park there.

Conclusion

A medium size airport that will not show the full potential of AI traffic because of the above issues.
